Pep Guardiola has admitted experiencing "embarrassment" after a confrontation with a camera operator subsequent to the Citizens' loss at Newcastle this past weekend.

When the match concluded, an emotional Guardiola entered the St James’ Park pitch and had heated discussions with match official Sam Barrott and Newcastle’s Bruno Guimarães, and also touched the headphones of the camera operator.

"I apologised," the manager remarked. "I feel embarrassed, ashamed, looking back. It's not acceptable. I apologised after one second to the cameraman. I am who I am. With a thousand matches under my belt I'm far from perfect, errors happen."

"What is for sure, I stand by my team and club, that’s for sure. Why I support my squad is clear – based on my career to clinch the title we need near-perfect totals, high nineties, or we fall short."

City are third and are seven behind the Gunners following their fourth loss this campaign. "Losing four games out of 12 we have to improve a lot," Guardiola admitted. "Mathematically, it’s possible to win everything."

When questioned about a potential quadruple could be achieved, Guardiola answered: "As a seasoned reporter, have you ever heard me discuss four trophies in December when we won the quadruple? No."

Interaction with Guimarães

On the subject of his talk with the Newcastle player, Guardiola said: "We have known Bruno a long time and every time after the game, even at the Etihad, we talk in the tunnel. We often meet and I always have a good relationship. I love it. I’m an emotional guy, I like discussing and gesticulate."

He wouldn't mind if an opposition manager addressed his squad immediately after a game. "Not if you talk with respect as I do, it’s not a problem," he said, mentioning the referee. "The referee was involved for 95 minutes, 98 minutes, he was involved. My God, he was involved."

Controversial Decisions

City were unhappy that Barrott or the VAR did not award City a penalty on a Schär tackle on Phil Foden, while they also questioned if Guimarães was offside when Harvey Barnes scored Newcastle’s 70th-minute winner. Pictures published later indicate the Brazilian was onside.

Next Big Match

He will manage of his 100th Champions League game against Bayer Leverkusen this week. "It’s quite good, it means that every season annually," he said.

The club has ten points after four games in the group, while Leverkusen have five.
