Triple NBA Most Valuable Player Jokic endured a "gut-wrenching" injury to his knee when the Nuggets lost by a score of 147-123 at the Miami Heat.

The Serbian center sustained the injury towards the end of the second quarter during an unintentional contact with team-mate Spencer Jones.

The other player stepped on the footwear of the MVP, who instantly went down to the ground holding his knee.

The 30-year-old, that leads the league this season in boards and dimes, posted 21 points and eight assists in the matchup prior to incurring the problem.

The player will have an MRI scan on the following day to determine the extent of the issue.

"Immediately, he realized something was wrong," commented Nuggets coach David Adelman.

"This happens in professional sports. Anyone who suffers an injury, it's difficult, most notably a player as important as he is. More information will come tomorrow."

"We will continue together. Obviously, at this moment, I am more concerned about Jokic personally and the frustration of facing a situation like that."
